Story Planner for Writers App Reviews

This is a great planning app that can export your work to scrivener, final draft, text or RTF. And it backs up on iCloud. If you write, you know you can lose countless irreplaceable hours on crappy apps that hold your data hostage and then crash losing it forever. Great update.

Thought it was pretty cool. Needed to to be able to edit titles of fields and reorder them. But the real blunder was losing all my outlines after the last update. They were just gone. Lots of ideas down the tubes.

The function of this app is great but the UI need to be improved. It will be better if you could make this app looks more design feeling.

Not the best UI – try typing more text into a notes field than the default space allows – but helpful for organizing ideas. Id sent the developers a message about adding a "duplicate project" option for template creation and/or story versioning… hopefully that makes it into an update soon. I also agree with the reviewer mentioning the need for better export functionality.

The reason why this only gets three stars is because I cant export my files via email. It doesnt send them so the app is practically useless. I have to redo it via Microsoft Word wasting valuable time. Besides that its organized very well, it would be five stars if I could export files.

Great idea. Sketchy UI and worse - no way to export. Says my "email is not set up."

One star because this app is worthless if it loses all of your work and ideas. I cannot rely on this. I liked it until I lost everything. Fix this and maybe Ill be back.

UPDATE 2: I figured out how to salvage them. Turn off iCloud in the apps setting and choose to transfer projects to device. Once the projects appear, iCloud can be turned back on without losing them. Changed rating to 3 stars, at least until I recover from the heart attack caused by the update. UPDATE: I, too, lost all my projects!! Dropping it from 4 stars to 1. Still trying to figure out if I can salvage what I had in there. A fix would be MOST appreciated. Ive found this app useful for outlining a novel. Filling out the form for each addition makes me stop and think more than when Im simply making a basic outline. A couple of things Id find even more helpful... 1) The ability to customize the Act menu choices. Act, chapter, etc. 2) The ability to nest rather than simply list, i.e. breaking down a major plot point or chapter into specifics.

Only one star due to me loosing all my work which I put a lot of time in to. I put a rating up like this three updates ago complaining about the same thing. So please fix this

Like several others, my projects were lost after the latest update. It looks like they arent coming back. The app had great features, but since everything I entered into it for my latest book is gone, I regret buying it and wish I could get my money back.

This app is really splendid! It has a lot of functions and is really organized, from organizing plot details, thorough character profiles, and even scene creation (one of the best features, I havent had anything decent help with scenes) Its definitely worth a couple of bucks. Its incredibly clean, stream-lined and thoroughly covers any story element. (Characters have inner and outer motivations. Every scene can be tied to certain plots. Etc etc) The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because certain features (not many) are not self explanatory or intuitive (such as deleting a story or arranging orders of things). I also feel like some of the options in detailing can make it difficult to streamline an individual process. For instance, I might not use two or three character profile spaces but those spaces remain on screen, making me scroll up and down constantly past them to find the parts I actually used. I wish that you could customize what details you needed for your process. But that is but a minor inconvenience in a superb writing app that can help map and plan virtually any story. In fact, one of its biggest flaws stems from being excessively helpful. TL;DR Yes, this app is worth your time and money. As a scatterbrain who needs a lot of structure and organization, I believe this app is a vital tool for being organized and creative, and being able to manage a wild array of concepts with relative ease.

It crashes constantly, which makes it unusable. It doesnt sync changes over iCloud like its supposed to or export files like it should. Otherwise Id rate it higher.

I have the other writing app made by this developer. Both apps are pretty good for those who have a lot of ideas for writing stories. Personally, I have not been able to use the app because Im too busy to write. Thats my problem, and it has nothing to do with the app. The app is good and its useful if you like to write and have the time.

I updated it, and when I opened a project I found that everything I had written in the "Project" Tab had been deleted. Not just for one story, but all 8 of my story ideas. Im just lucky I put so much time into these stories that I committed every detail to memory (well, almost). Back to pen and paper for me, this couldve been a lot worse

The app was working fine before the update. Now it wont even open. Help!

Update: still crashing under 4.0.2 Updated due to some users experiencing crashes. After updating, now my app crashes and doesnt even start up.

Outstanding outlining app. Highly recommended.
